What Is The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. Over 100 years ago, the ACS began it's battle against cancer as the American Society for the Control of Cancer. Today the ACS provides support to cancer patients and their caregivers, provides knowledge to help people prevent cancer and funds research to find treatments and a cure for cancer. Due to their efforts, 2 out of 3 cancer patients survive the disease and countless others are spare getting it do to healthier lifestyles.

Relay For Life
In 1985, Dr. Gordon Klatt raised over $25,000 to fight cancer by running and walking around a track for 24 hours. This was the beginning of Relay For Life. It grew into a team event in communities all over the world. Today there are over 5,000 Relay For Life events every year. As the American Cancer Society's most successful fundraiser and the organization's signature event, the mission of Relay For Life is to raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers.
Relay For Life of Second Life
Of the over 5,000 Relay For Life events, the 17th largest event, in terms of money raised, takes place not in a city or town, but in the Virtual World of Second Life. While the world may be virtual, the people involved and their passion for eliminating cancer very real! In 2005, the first Relay For Life of Second Life raised $5,000 for The American Cancer Society. In 2016 we will surpass $3,000,000 in total donations since 2005.
